Emily Raymond is an artist and Graphic Designer based in Hertfordshire.

Having graduated from Lancaster University with First Class Honours in Fine Art and Design in July 2023, Emily now works as a Graphic Designer. The breadth of design types that her degree covered has fostered a thorough understanding of design and encouraged versatility, leading to interests in: visualisation (both 2D and 3D), speculative design, branding design and experiential design. This versatility enables her to approach each new brief with a fresh outlook for the desired style. As part of the degree course, Emily completed an integrated placement year working as the Creative Intern at pre-loved luxury handbag and jewellery specialist, Xupes. During this year, she gained in-depth experience of design in industry, creating content for a variety of advertising and marketing campaigns. She also re-designed the Xupes logo as the company underwent a rebrand and worked closely with the Directors and Creative/ Marketing team to develop and visualise the new branding. On her return to university for her final year, Emily continued her work in design for advertising and marketing as the Graphic Designer for the Lancaster University Marketing Society. She is now continuing to work as a Graphic Designer.

The Fine Art part of Emily’s degree stems from a lifelong interest in creativity. She continues her passion for creating art. Complementing her knowledge in design, Emily’s artwork explores the perception of colour. Her interest lies in colour theory, the nuances of colour placement, and how the appearance of one colour can be altered by the colours surrounding it. In her painting practice she playfully examines the formal potential of colour through contrast; placing hard edges against painterly brushstrokes and transparent areas against opaque blocks. The final painting installations are made from Perspex and oil paint on wood. They evolve by building up layers of colour which protrude into a third-dimension. Thus perspex becomes a lens, using colour and light to alter the appearance of the paint. The works are intended to be viewed from different perspectives, to expose how the colour changes through the different Perspex lenses. Her aim is to demonstrate the complexity of a seemingly simple subject, which although experienced daily, often passes unnoticed.
